It is a small tree from 2 to 6 meters high. The flowers preceding the foliation are yellow and very small. With their early flowering in February they announce spring. Carnelians, as they are called, are bright red drupes and appear on the shrub in autumn. They are highly sought after by wildlife. Wood is suitable for making turning objects.
