Royal Flowers Collection Wild garlic (AIlium ursinum)

Reggia di Monza

Reggia di Monza
Monza, Italy

It is a perennial plant with a bulb from which two lanceolate leaves grow with white star-shaped flowers that bloom in May and cover the undergrowth: in the Park they create very suggestive shows. The leaves give off a strong perceptible garlic smell, in areas where these seedlings are abundant, even at a distance of several meters. It grows throughout the park and gardens. It was introduced in the Austrian period in the Royal Gardens to avoid forest maintenance from February to July and as a natural deterrent to ward off harmful insects.
